A Kiss Goodnight from Me to You

Published May 14, 2012 by dailyprincesslife

At the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, they do something nightly in front of Cinderella’s Castle called a “Kiss Goodnight”.  It’s just a nice way to end the day, and send you off into a land of magical dreams.  I thought it would be fun to have my own version of a “Kiss Goodnight”, to share some things right before bedtime, and to send my readers some nice thoughts before dreamland.  Hope you enjoy my Kiss Goodnight from me to you.

Wow!  I don’t know how it got to be May!  I haven’t forgotten my blog (although it may have seemed that way!)  and I know I’m way behind on posting!  Actually I’m having major camera trouble with my new camera.  I haven’t been able to use it for about a month now.  So, I decided to try making a video with my laptop webcam…yeah it’s not the best quality, BUT, at least it works (for now).  I apologize in advance for the poor video quality, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.  Hopefully I’ll get my camera back soon!  Oh, and I promise to try to post at lease once a week!  This princess stays pretty busy between three jobs!  Thanks for understanding!  Enjoy my mini haul!

Getting “Tangled”

Published March 8, 2012 by dailyprincesslife

Well it’s been awhile since my last post, so I thought I would share what I’ve been up to.  My birthday is this month, and years past, I have usually had a party with a theme (one of the things about being a children’s party planner is that I always seem to have some sort of theme in my mind).  This year I was actually thinking of not having a party, and just doing something simple, (although my version of simple is probably anything but).  By the end of January, I was starting to get asked what the “theme” would be this year for my birthday by a few close friends, and even my husband suggested having a birthday party at our home, so I started thinking about what fun “theme” I would do.  Well, the answer came when I was watching one of my new favorite Disney movies Tangled.  Yep, I bet you are thinking, “Um…a princess party?  You do those for little girls EVERY weekend!  Are you kidding?  Um..childish much?”  So, to answer that question right off, no, I am not having a Tangled princess party.  Instead of playing on the princess aspect of my favorite movie, (even though she is actually my new favorite Disney princess, next to Ariel, who will always be my all time favorite from childhood:) I have decided to make it more of a fashion/crafting party.  We “big girls” like to get dressed up too ya know, but in place of putting on “dress up clothes”, we like to look fashionable, pretty, and unique.  With this in mind, I decided to to just that : A Tangled Fashion and Crafting Party I am putting together craft ideas to make, and asked my guests to come dressed in a Disney Inspired fashion, but not necessarily princess.  I have posted before on here about inspired fashion, but just to refresh your memory :

This is from Design by Disney

Here are two other examples :

The other projects that I have been working on to get ready for my party, are decorations.  I have never actually attempted to make my own party decorations before, so this task is a bit more daunting, nevertheless, it is starting to come together.  So far I have attempted making my own no-sew fabric garland, and I’m working on a no-sew fabric bunting that will be hung around our open living area.  Here are a few photos of the fabric garland I am making.  I’m not quite done with it as you can see:

Purple Tangled inspired garland

It still needs some work but so far I'm pleased with how it's turning out.

I post more photos when it’s done.  I’m also working on making a no-sew bunting, which I will put up as well, and a mini bunting cake topper.  My party is next Friday, so I hope it all gets done!  I am also planning on setting up a small candy buffet, and a few other surprises.  So, until next time, stay Magical!

Naked Palette (original)

Published February 11, 2012 by dailyprincesslife

Okay, I know I’m a slacker when it comes to keeping up with my blog, and I have been meaning to do a post about this palette since I bought it last summer.  Now that the Naked 2 palette is out (which I happen to have also bought,) I figured it was high time to finally talk about the first Naked palette.  So I actually bought the first Naked Palette by Urban Decay last summer, after hearing lots of great reviews, and seeing some pretty fabulous looks with it.  At first I was like, “I can’t believe I just spent this much on eye shadows!” but then I told myself that I would use this palette everyday to do my shadow with, since there are SO MANY looks that you can make with it.  When I thought of it that way, then buying this collection of twelve shadows was pretty reasonable.  I was getting several eye looks in one.  Boy was I wrong!  The looks are ENDLESS with this!  Much more than just a few, or even “several”, there are TONS of eye looks you can make with this!  I am in love with all of these eye shadows!  Since I bought it last June, I have used it pretty much everyday, (with a few exceptions) and STILL find new looks to do with it.

This palette comes with a flat stiff brush for applying (or I’ve heard it called “packing on”) color to the lid.  This brush is great for picking up enough color and “packing” onto the lid over your primer.  Most all of these colors will work beautifully on many different skin colors (I’ve used them not only on myself, with an olive/yellow undertone, but on my bffs whose skin is much lighter and pinker than mine).  I’ll list the colors pictured in order:

Left to Right- Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal.

You can see that one or two of the colors  have some glitter in them, (I don’t know why my camera was so blurry) which I usually don’t like to use, but if you don’t mind cleaning up a little bit around your eyes, then those colors are very wearable.  I think Sidecar has the most, and next to that would be Gunmetal, and then Creep.  The other two, (Gunmetal and Creep) you can’t really tell as much, so those colors work very well.

Here are just a couple of looks that I have done with this palette.  I would be happy to do some more looks with it!

The top look has more of a bronzy, brown look to it, while this one has some gray in it.  I’d love to do some video tutorials on a day look, and maybe a night, or going out look.

Yes, I DID buy the Naked 2 palette, which I will most likely do a video review on (hopefully!)  so check back for that!  Let me know your thoughts on this palette!  Have any of you bought it?  Do you like it?

Princess Rapunzel

Published February 4, 2012 by dailyprincesslife

Princess Rapunzel with a very special sweet princess!

Today I got to play my new favorite princess!  Rapunzel from Tangled!  I don’t think I’ve mentioned that I am slightly obsessed with this movie, and LOVE the fact that Mandy Moore does her voice.  Also, she wears purple, and that is my favorite color.  The gladness that I felt today while having the opportunity to play Princess Rapunzel cannot be described.  I think I was smiling bigger than the girls who I was visiting with!  I feel truly blessed.  Just wanted to share.

Makeup Splurges

Published January 30, 2012 by dailyprincesslife

I have to confess that I do love makeup.  Doesn’t matter what kind day I’m having, there’s something soothing to me about twenty shades of eyeshadow and lipstick, and thinking of all the creative, fun looks you can make with them.  Makeup shopping is always an instant pick me up.  Every once in awhile, I will actually go makeup shopping with a bigger purpose, and when I do, it’s usually for a few bigger, more expensive items that I need.  While there are a few less expensive brands that I like, and use, some of the higher end makeup brands are, to me, worth investing in.  Yes, I’m guilty of splurging on makeup.  It’s not all bad though, since some of the high end, professional makeup is definitely worth spending on.  So, the question is, when should you save, and when is it okay to splurge?  Most everyone has certain brands they like, or are faithful to, and I guess I’m no different, although I’ve found that trying new things can be fun, and many times these new products (yes, the more expensive ones) become my new favs.  I’ve put together a list of makeup items that I, myself, find worth splurging on.  While some people may not use all of these products in your daily routine, (I use most of them when doing my princess character makeup), you might try adding one or two to your makeup bag for special occasions, or date nights.  Most of these are pretty basic items that you’ll find yourself reaching for time and time again.    I’ll post links on where to buy at the bottom:

Primer-

Priming your face before applying makeup will not only give you face a smooth and even finish, but it fills in pores and fine lines, so your getting the best use out of your foundation.  This is something I don’t normally wear everyday (depending on how much time I have), but I find that it really does make a difference when I use it.  It also helps my makeup wear better throughout the day, and keeps it looking pretty darn fresh, (not that I would know anything about taking a nap in my makeup, then waking up to go out to dinner, because that’s just wrong…okay, so maybe I have done that).

Concealer-

This is one item that is a necessity for me.  I tend to keep dark circles under my eyes, so having a good concealer is a must.  I use this to cover imperfections, and blemishes as well, and the redness around my nose (because for some reason even my beige-olive complexion gets red around there).  If I’m having a “no makeup day” or pool day, I usually put on a little concealer.  Some days I wish it really lived up to it’s name, and would “conceal” me so I would be invisible.  Maybe someone should make a Harry Potter line of cosmetics, and the concealer would of course be called “Invisibility Cloak”.  (I totally want to do that now).  (Btw I love Benefit’s Erase Paste!  A little really does go a long way.)

Foundation-

As the names says, foundation is what most of us start with when applying makeup.  It helps even everything out, and gives a fresh canvas to build any makeup look upon.  Some people prefer powder foundation, but I go with liquid.  Even though I actually have combo/oily skin, to me, powder foundations are too dry and cakey (sorry to all of the Bare Minerals lovers!) and I have tried to like them, but I always end up going back to liquid.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  There are great powder foundations out there, that work wonderfully for people.  I just happen to not be one of those people.  Okay, so liquid foundation is probably my greatest “splurge” makeup item (next to the Naked pallets from Urban Decay…which is an entirely different story, of which I will cover in a different post).  Even when I don’t use an actual foundation, I still usually apply a tinted moisturizer which is a good bit lighter than regular liquid foundation.  But, I’m not going to tell you that tinted moisturizer is one of my “splurge” items, so, moving on.

Bronzer-

Okay, we’ve all done it (well most of us…okay, so I have).  We want to keep our beautiful summer-kissed skin going, we see these oh-so-pretty-shimmery-beachy looking bronzers, packaged to look like someone took summer, put it in a glass case, and is just waiting for us to buy them, open them up, ooo, and ahhh, over how nicely the colors and details look together, and get all overly excited about making ourselves look like a sun Goddess.  So, we grab our brush, swirl it around in the shimmery sun spiraled middle, and apply it to our cheeks…and then, when we look in the mirror, expecting to see glistening, tanned cheek bones… find we are hideously DIRTY LOOKING!  *high pitched scream*  Wait?  How can that beautiful, beach-inspired, coconut fragrance, innocent looking bronzer make me look as though I went out, and grabbed handfuls of mud, and proceeded to smear it all over my cheeks?  That was NOT the look I was going for!  Well, good news beach babes (and wannabes) not only is the trick to getting bronzer to work in the application, (and trust me, application for any and all makeup is KEY to getting the most out of it…yet another topic to be covered at another time, and post) but it is also in choosing the right shade to compliment your skin tone.  That is crucial.  I have only found one or two drugstore brand bronzers that I like, and this past summer I decided to splurge on one high end brand that I had heard many good things about.  It is the best bronzer I have ever owned.  The color is perfect for me.  It’s the end of January and there are days that I still use it, instead of blush.

Well, that about wraps up my “must have” splurge items.  Now, I know that just because you read this, you are going to want to rush right out and blow money on all of these items…yeah right, I know money is tight for most of us, and honestly, even buying one or two of these may not be in your budget right now.  If you really want to try something, pick out one (or two) to save for, or reward yourself for loosing that 5 pounds at the end of the week (hey, it’s a lot less fattening than that cupcake), and decide for yourself if spending more on a staple product is really worth it.  Who knows?  You may find a new love (or hate…depending).  In any case have fun, and ~

I Guess I’m Back…

Published November 12, 2011 by dailyprincesslife

As I was sitting here, typing up an “I’m Back” post, talking about how extremely busy life has been since we got back from Disney World, my browser crashed…causing the lovely post I had just typed up to be lost forever.  How discouraging right?  Yes, I have been busy.  So busy working at both Costume Curio, Aerie, doing Princess Parties and Royal Visits, that I haven’t taken the time to keep up on here.  Working 12 hour days last month is something I was not used to, and so I had a hard time keeping up.  Oh, and did I mention that I signed up to sell Mary Kay in the midst of all of that craziness?  Yep, I did.  My first Mary Kay party is next Friday.  Well, as I said, we went to Disney World, and had a GREAT BIG WONDERFUL TIME…I did not want to come home.  I never do, but this time I really REALLY didn’t.  It was perfect.  Where we stayed, ate, and everything we did was wonderful.  A dream come true.  I want to go back.  Oh and my computer crashed.  Bit the dust.  Got something and it infected it, and now it’s gone.  Soo, I’ve been using my hubby’s computer.  Can’t figure anything out on it, and it has none of my files or pictures on it, so it’s very discouraging.  I would post a picture of us at Disney World…I have SO MANY pictures to post.  But I can’t.  Sad.  Hopefully my next post will be more encouraging.  Hopefully.

Getting Ready to Go to Disney World- “We’re Going to Disney!”

Published September 16, 2011 by dailyprincesslife

Yes, I know what you’re thinking when you saw this title, “She’s going to Disney AGAIN?!”  Yes.  Yes I am.  You know, I’ve thought about how people react when I tell them we’re going (or I’m going) to Disney World for another trip, and I have to say, it isn’t always a nice reaction.  Sometimes I wish I hadn’t told them, because sometimes the reactions are downright, well…ugly! (for a term used a lot by my Nanny).  I have often wondered what they have against me, or Disney, or maybe it’s just me going TO Disney that irritates them.  I tell myself, “Well, maybe their just jealous because they aren’t getting to go.”  Then I start thinking about the three groups of people I know:  Those that DO go, and really enjoy going to Disney Parks, and on Disney vacations; those that DON’T go on Disney vacations, and SAY they have no desire to go; and those that are completely clueless to what going on a Disney vacation is, simply because they have never been on one.  Which, now that I think about it, MOST of the people in the second group actually fall into that third group.  While I may never get the chance to let all of these “skeptics”, and critics experience the fun, excitement, and adventure of what going to Disney is, maybe in some way, I can at least help educate them on the many, many reasons why we “Disney Nuts” keep returning year after year to the same place…or venturing out on a different kind of Disney vacation experience (Disney Cruise, other Disney Parks, Adventures by Disney to Europe etc).

I think that part of a love for Disney is something you grow up with, and honestly, for me, it’s that growing up with Disney that has given me such a unique outlook, and love for it.  All of it!  Not just the Parks, but also the movies, the characters, the toys that I played with, and even the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA where my mom worked when I was a child.  There are good memories associated with these things all put together, that always seem to bring me comfort, encouragement, and inspiration.  Of course the things that bring us fond memories of our childhood are usually the things that make us the happiest, aren’t they?  I supposed this is the case with me and Disney.  Now that I am not a child anymore (although I don’t plan on ever really growing up completely!) I have been able to add to these good memories with family and friends, and share a little bit of the magic that has, in all actuality, made me some of who I am today.  Having opportunities to make memories with my husband at a place where I have so many good memories with my mom and grandmother is something that I hold dear to my heart, and hope to keep doing!  Before my husband met me, he had no idea of the hidden treasures that going on Disney vacations held, and now, well, he’s just as excited about going as I am!  Really!  There is just far too much to explain to someone who has a mindset that “Disney is just for kids”, or “I don’t like amusement parks”, or even “I just don’t think I’d have fun there”, and most ALL of it really does have to be experienced to truly understand it!  I have heard so many negative attitudes towards Disney from people who don’t know what it’s really like, or are just unwilling to find it out for themselves, and frankly, I’m just tired of it!  Right now I should be finishing up my packing, but instead something has compelled me to come on here and write (procrastination always gets me!) to defend my love for my favorite place.  I guess I can go with the attitude of “to each his own”, which is what I normally just do.  I’ve thought before, well, I don’t go around being critical, or sounding annoyed with people when they tell me they’re going on vacation to Jamaica, or for a weekend to the beach, so why is it when I say I’m heading down to Walt Disney World, I get a response like, “Don’t you ever get TIRED of Disney?!”  Well, um…NOPE!  Do YOU ever get TIRED of going to…(fill in the blank with any destination of your choice), does it make you happy when you’re there?  Why SHOULDN’T we be excited about going to a place that makes us happy?  Okay, so you get the point (hopefully).

We are leaving tomorrow (well tonight in the middle of the night!) and driving down, making our usual stops along the way for breakfast, and at the Florida visitor’s center to sip some OJ, and again in St. Augustine at the big Disney World outlet.  We’re excited.  We’re hopeful.  Hopeful to make some good memories together at a place that delights our hearts, and fills our days with wonder.  There are so MANY things that make up each trip to Disney for us!  Not to mention all of the fascinating engineering ( Walt Disney called his engineers Imagineers) secrets that bring these Disney Parks alive, and make them the wonders that they truly are!  Oh, and did I mention the FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!?  Yes, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland, have many world renouned restaurants and eateries all throughout their property, which, is a Whole New World of it’s own!  Have you ever wanted to eat at a 5 Diamond, award winning, critically acclaimed restaurant?  Check out  Victoria and Albert’s, at the Grand Floridian Resort and Hotel. Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of eating here, and hopfully someday I WILL!  There is a whole universe waiting to be discoverd at Walt Disney World alone (I mean it is TWICE the size of Manhattan!) and as many times as we’ve been, we STILL have not gotten to do everything there is!  I’m not sure we ever will!

Although I may not be able to change any minds by telling you what my family and friends and I love about Disney, I certainly hope that, perhaps, the next time I tell someone “We’re going to Disney!” that they will smile, and appreciate my excitement, and maybe even wish they could come along too.  Hey, if it were up to me, I’d take EVERYONE I KNOW with me!

Favorite Snacks in Walt Disney World

Published September 1, 2011 by dailyprincesslife

I found myself writing to a friend of mine, who is going to be at Walt Disney World this week, giving them my favorite snacks while there, so I decided to share it on here as well (yet again).  There are MANY AMAZING snacks, and goodies you can get ALL over WDW, but for now I will keep it to 2 snacks in each park that are “must dos” for us usually.  I may add to this list later:)  So here we go:

MK
In Adventureland, PINEAPPLE DOLE WHIP FLOAT!!!!!!
Okay, this is MY personal favorite, and my mom and I used to get these at Disneyland when I was little, but honestly, it IS THE BEST cold snack around!  Now, you CAN get just a regular Pineapple Dole Whip (without the float part) and it’s good as well, but for some reason the addition of pineapple juice to make it a float is the best=)  You can’t go wrong…well, as long as you like pineapple lol.  They have vanilla and orange there too.

Okay, for the second snack, I would NORMALLY say go to Frontierland and get a Churro, (but you can get those at other places, in other parks now too, SO, I’m going to HAVE to say head over to mine and Kevin’s favorite little spot, Sleepy Hollow, and get a freshly baked Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich.  Oh, and sit and watch Cinderella’s Castle while you eat it.  Just stare at it.  Like I do.  Let the ice cream melt and run down your arm…well…okay, so maybe you won’t do that.  I do lol.  Seriously, eat one of these beauties and you’ll see why we love them!  Yet another honorable mention, and favorite of ours, are Cinnamon Rolls at the Main Street Bakery (one look and you’ll see why I had to include them).  Great for breakfast.  You’ll probably want to split one.  One more (just ONE more) honorable mention:  Sweet Cream Cheese Pretzel at The Lunching Pad MK.  It’s yummy.  Trust me.

Next to Epcot:
Okay, so there are lots of neat snacks in the countries here, and I’ll give you ours from 2 different ‘Countries’:  School Bread from Norway

Sorry, I don’t have a photo of the School Bread.  Guess we were too hungry and ate it.  Same with the Crepe.

Second, a Crepe from France (strawberry or chocolate…either will do:).  I COULD go on to tell you about other wonderful things, like the caramel corn at Karamell Kuche in Germany, but you have to have something to try on your own ;-)

Onward to DHS!
I have a friend who works at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, at The Brown Derby.  No, I’ve never eaten there.  Why? Well, it’s a signature dining restaurant, and even my friend will tell you, it’s just so darn expensive!  She actually gets a discount, so we may eat there on our trip IN 16 DAYS!!!  Okay, so because my friend works here, I have spent more time in this park than I would have ever thought.  Like ALL DAY till 1 am!  Even she has told me that DHS was designed to be what is considered a 1/2 day park.  I have found myself falling more in love with it recently though, and some of this has to do with the fact the the New Star Tours is AMAZING!!!!  And, because you can go to the Animation Studio (Animation Courtyard) and draw (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)  But, mostly it’s because….well you can just guess…snacks there!  I have found possibly 2 of my VERY FAVORITE little places to take a break, and eat goodies at:  Starring Rolls, and The Writer’s Stop.  Both places have selections of various pastries, coffee, and such.  At Starring Rolls, the Red Velvet Cupcake is amazing, and the Butterfinger Cupcake.

Writer’s Stop HANDS DOWN for me is the incredible Carrot Cake Cookie Sandwich.

Once again…split this baby.  It’s WAY bigger than it looks here.  It’s a lot to eat on your own.  Not to say that I err..haven’t.  Oh I have.  Hey you’re gonna walk off those 5,368746,330988 calories anyway!

AK-
So, we come to Animal Kingdom now.  So this would be the park that I’m now getting my Churros from, at Dino Bites, in, yep you guessed it, Dinoland.  I’ve found that getting my ‘must eat’ churro (because no trip to WDW is complete without one of these) at Dino Bites in AK is the same as getting one anywhere else at Disney, and sitting at the little tables while taking a break from the heat/crowds/walking is a nice way of enjoying it.
My other pick from this park is in Africa at the Kusafiri Bakery.  The Paw Print Brownie.  Yes.  That IS a layer of cream cheese frosting on top.  I don’t recommend trying to eat this on your own either (funny that most of these snacks take at least 2 people to eat them).  I’ve been brave enough to try to eat this alone.  My friend Allyson (the one that works at DHS) had to finish it.

Yes, well, those are all of my (and Kevin’s!) top picks for snacks!  Yes, there are other things to eat at the resorts.  No, I will not attempt to post them all on here..well, with ONE exception.  If you’re staying at Pop Century (which I can’t remember if you were or not), head over to the food court, Everything Pop, and get a slice of Tye Dyed Cheesecake.  It’s okay.  It’ll only make your tongue tye dyed for a little while:)

SO, I hope you’re not overwhelmed with all of this delicious information.  If you are, I’m sorry.  I’m a Disney Foodie, so I can’t help it.

Stay Magical!
